Privacy policy

We collect as little personal information as we can, we use it only for the reasons below, and we never sell it.

Last updated October 24, 2026.

1. Who we are

The Finance Woman (“Finance Woman”, “we”, “us”) runs thefinancewoman.com, a financial-education website for women in Canada. We are responsible for the personal information we collect. This policy explains how we handle it under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25) where it applies, and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

2. Our privacy officer

Our Privacy Officer is accountable for this policy and for how we protect your information. Contact: Privacy Officer, Finance Woman, info@thefinancewoman.com.

4. What we do not collect

  • Your numbers in our tools. Calculators and planners run entirely in your browser. The income, debts, savings or dates you enter are not sent to us or stored by us. Saving a PDF or adding calendar reminders happens on your device.
  • Government ID numbers, bank or card details, or passwords. We never ask for them. If anyone claiming to be us asks, do not share them and tell us.
  • Information from children. Our services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

5. Consent

We ask for your express consent before we email you: you tick a box that is not pre-ticked. You can withdraw consent at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email, or by emailing info@thefinancewoman.com. We act on unsubscribe requests within 10 business days, as CASL requires.

6. How we use it, and how we don’t

We use your information only for the purposes in section 3. We may use de-identified, aggregated data (for example, “40% of subscribers want help with taxes”) to plan content. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not use it for automated decisions about you.

7. Who we share it with

We share only what is needed with service providers who process it on our behalf and under contract:

  • Vercel (website hosting, private backup storage of sign-ups, anonymous analytics).
  • Google (Google Workspace / Google Sheets, where we keep the subscriber list).
  • Our scheduling provider (bookings), when online booking is enabled.

We may disclose information if the law requires it. We will never share it for others’ marketing.

8. Where your information is stored

Our providers may store and process information outside Canada, including in the United States. When that happens it is subject to the laws of that country, and authorities there may be able to access it. We choose providers with strong security commitments and limit what we send them.

9. How long we keep it

  • Newsletter records: while you are subscribed, then deleted within 30 days of unsubscribing, except a minimal record of your consent and unsubscribe date, which we keep for 3 years to meet CASL record-keeping obligations.
  • Booking and email correspondence: up to 2 years after our last contact, unless the law requires longer.
  • Analytics: aggregated and anonymous, kept as long as useful.

10. How we protect it

Access is limited to the founders and only where needed. Accounts use strong passwords and two-factor authentication. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our providers. Sign-up storage is private, not publicly accessible.

11. Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, withdraw consent, or have it deleted. Quebec residents also have the right to data portability and to be informed about automated processing (we do none). Email info@thefinancewoman.com. We reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first.

12. Privacy incidents

If a breach of security creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected people and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (and the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec where required), and keep a record of the incident.

13. Complaints

Tell us first at info@thefinancewoman.com and we will try to fix it. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

14. Changes

We will post any changes here with a new date. If a change materially affects how we use information you already gave us, we will ask for your consent again.
